Hill’s Heroes is a deployment personnel support project supporting the Hill AFB Airman & Family Readiness Center (AFRC). Each ‘doll’ is custom made for each deploying member’s family members.
The ‘dolls’ are small pillows to provide comfort that have a picture of the deployed member’s picture on it. On the back side, fabric from donated BDU/ABU/etc. uniforms are used.
A side benefit of the HH program is that in the process, donated uniforms are destroyed (to include name badges, unit patches, etc.), thus are ‘kept off the streets.’
Our AFA-UTAH members provide the project management, the fund raising and accounting, the purchasing/acquiring of materials, and the organizing the volunteers who hand-make these special dolls.
Note: Due to OPSEC, AFA-UTAH does not receive or relay information about deployment numbers, locations, dates or activities. Most of the deployed members are assigned to the 388th , the 419th , and the LRS. We do not provide pictures of these dolls with recognizable faces on them either. The picture provided below is one that was made 10 years ago for a now retired USAF veteran (and AFA member) who allowed us to share it.
